Of course, many of us like to watch the Olympics on TV, and it really is good publicity. It also really brings the world together, if only for a few weeks, as a community. However, millions of dollars get spent on the Olympics, and the Host city often hides major problems, such as poverty, to prevent the rest of the world from getting a negative image. Can we really afford to spend this much money, and time, on the Olympics, especially in an economic crisis such as the one we are in now? Is it all worth it for the cultural exchange that goes on during the Olympics?
